I enjoy "fine dining", presenting programs on radios 4MBS, MBS Light and 4RPH and going to drama and music at Brisbane theatres.

There is nothing like a heist

Hooray, it's the greatest heist of the century all the boss women in cool power suits from the all-female Ocean's 8 have stolen the opening weekend box-office record away from the original film in the popular crime franchise.

The star-studded film includes such luminaries as Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Rihanna, Sarah Paulson, Mindy Kaling, Helena Bonham Carter and Awkwafina.

Ocean's 8 pulled in an estimated $41.5 million during its first three days in theatres, according to Forbes.

Even allowing for inflation and the respective costs of the films, that handily beats the opening-weekend figures for Ocean's Twelve ($39.2 million), Ocean's Eleven ($38.1 million), and Ocean's Thirteen ($36.1 million). (Information from junkee.com)

Was the plot improbable in places? Absolutely, and entirely in keeping with the franchise. But, more importantly, were we engaged throughout? that's an emphatic positive. And was it FUN? very much so the audience were roaring with laughter throughout.

If you want "War and Peace" - don't go.

But if you want action, convoluted plots, and sheer uncritical enjoyment this is the movie for you.

Your aged reviewer intends to go see it a second time soon something he hardly ever does.
