There is nothing like a heist

Hooray, it's the greatest heist of the century — all the boss women in cool power suits from the all-female Ocean's 8 have stolen the opening weekend box-office record away from the original film in the popular crime franchise.

The star-studded film includes such luminaries as Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Rihanna, Sarah Paulson, Mindy Kaling, Helena Bonham Carter and Awkwafina.

Ocean's 8 pulled in an estimated $41.5 million during its first three days in theatres, according to Forbes.

Even allowing for inflation and the respective costs of the films, that handily beats the opening-weekend figures for Ocean's Twelve ($39.2 million), Ocean's Eleven ($38.1 million), and Ocean's Thirteen ($36.1 million). (Information from

Was the plot improbable in places? – Absolutely, and entirely in keeping with the franchise. But, more importantly, were we engaged throughout? – that's an emphatic positive. And was it FUN? – very much so – the audience were roaring with laughter throughout.

If you want "War and Peace" - don't go.

But if you want action, convoluted plots, and sheer uncritical enjoyment – this is the movie for you.

Your aged reviewer intends to go see it a second time soon – something he hardly ever does.
