My friend Anita and I went to Alkimos last week for lunch by the sea. There apparently used to be a cafe situated there but not any longer. There is now the restaurant Oceans 27 and next door is a cocktail bar, which to me would have been better utilised as a coffee and cake shop, maybe with the added benefits of a cocktail bar. But that is only my opinion and observation.
After discovering that there was no cafe, we decided to have lunch at the restaurant. Don't get me wrong, I love a good restaurant but having a gastric sleeve, I can only eat a small amount and sometimes buying a whole large lunch is just a waste for me as I cannot eat it all.
We decided to sit inside and was served some chilled water straight away. We decided to order from the small bites menu section as my friend also cannot eat larger meals.
Anita chose the Beef satay bow bow buns and some fries, and I chose the Crispy pork belly. I was impressed with all the portion sizes as well as the flavours infused in my pork belly. It was definitely the restaurant-quality you should expect. I was also pleasantly surprised to be given a takeaway container when I asked as many restaurants will not provide them anymore.
The doors were full-length glass, so we had a beautiful view of the ocean and being mid-week, the restaurant was not overcrowded.
Our service was prompt and pleasant and at $22 each, it was not any more than we would have paid for at a quality cafe, so overall, we were satisfied both with our lunch, the views, the service, and last but not least, the price.
With not being able to travel anywhere it seems that a lot of our cafes and restaurants are being rewarded with patronage and some of the beachside cafes fill up fast for lunch. So if you would like to have a little drive out to somewhere like Alkimos beach you can be rewarded with a pleasant meal and not too much overcrowding. Don't forget your hat and sunscreen, so you can enjoy the beautiful beach there too.
