Let me introduce you to Ocean View Estates, a place I am delighted to have discovered in July 2011, when, with a group of friends, we booked in to celebrate my birthday.
Fabulous food, gorgeous views over the vineyards and the appeal of fresh mountain air; all just 45 minutes north of Brisbane.
As strange as it seems to say for a winery, I must add that, I haven't yet found any better 'homemade' scones with cream and jam than what they serve up here during morning and afternoon tea. We have since sneaked back here on several occasions on the weekends for these scones at morning tea time and always leave feeling 'satisfied and refreshed'.
Of course the main 'food affairs' served during lunch and dinner is equally superb. The beautiful restaurant, a timber and pole construction was built to make the most of the views overlooking the vineyards and lake.
Although there is a sample menu on the website, this doesn't show the 'lunch offers' which include burgers, sandwiches, salads and other items around $16 - $25 as a guide. Ocean view estates offers special nights combining food and music, degustation dinners and other combinations. Good idea to join their mailing list for these updates.
Now we have sampled the food, lets move over to the wines..
Tasting is personal, so you'll have to visit to come and try. Inside the "stylish cellar door tasting room" you can try reds, whites and dessert wines. The tastes and wines can change from each visit, so if you do come back again, "taste again". The first grapes were planted on the estate in 1998 and a number of awards have been won for their wines. Read more about their wines and how they produce them here.
Make a 'day of it' The road to get here from the South will take you along a nice scenic route, the Mt Mee Tourist Drive. You could visit the surrounding forest and take one of the short walks before arriving at Ocean View Estates in time for morning tea, then, take a walk around the grounds, visit the 'cellar doors' for tastings and take a seat on the deck in the restaurant for a relaxing lunch.
Two vineyard cottages were built on the grounds of this estate in 2007 and are just a 200 metre walk from the restaurant and cellar door. Nestled amongst the vineyards and overlooking the lake they are perfect for a private and intimate 'getaway'.Click here for vineyard cottage information
