Looking for a reason to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and a chance to relax and unwind, then a drive up to Ocean View Estates could be the answer. Ocean View Estate Winery, Vineyard, Restaurant and Accommdation seems to have everything a day trip to the country should have. Situated only 45 minutes from Brisbane, on Mt Mee road, north of Dayboro it is but a short drive for you to escape the frantic pace of the city.
My husband and I have been to Ocean View Estates on many occasions over the last several years and we are always impressed with the fine dining experience at the restaurant. The relaxed ambience and scenic surroundings is such a great recipe for a pleasant experience. We have visited the cellar door at the winery as well and have done the wine tasting experience, savouring the delights of the local wines. We have purchased a few to extend our enjoyment at home.
Our last trip to Ocean View Estates (OVE) restaurant was with our son for a leisurely Saturday lunch a couple of months ago. It was a chance for us as a family to enjoy the company of each other and to unwind from a hectic work week. The drive in the countryside with lunch on the agenda made for a lovely day.
The menu at OVE changes seasonally and many of the fresh ingredients are sourced locally and in season. The restaurant caters for all dietary needs with an additional menu page for vegetarians. Perusal of the menu is always a mouth watering task and choosing what to order can be difficult, yet we are never disappointed with our choices. On this particular occasion we start with the trio of dips and fresh crusty Turkish bread. A glass of the local white wine compliments the entree and meal.
After relaxing and enjoying the scenery of the countryside from the deck, our meals arrive. My husband has chosen Salted Pork Belly with Asian salad and my son enjoys the Homemade Country Pie with chips. both of which satisfied their hungry appetites. I am happy with my choice of the Beetroot and Goat's Cheese Salad. It comes beautifully presented and tastes as good. Our lunch was enjoyed whilst overlooking the vineyards and lake. All the lunch time menu items are usually price very reasonable under the $20. They do have daily chef's specials as well. The food was served by friendly and efficient staff.
After lunch we wander down along the rose lined footpath to the lake and continue to soak in the beauty of the rolling hills and gorgeous countryside. We are also surrounded by the vineyard.
Other activities on offer here include wine tasting at the cellar door, tour of the winery, horse riding, bushwalking and the restaurant can also make up hampers if you care to picnic on the grounds. The also have limited accommodation for those who are keen to make a weekend of it. Ocean View Estates has also been host to a variety of artists and have had Sunday afternoon concerts or evening events. Subscribing to their newsletter can keep you up to date and informed about the happenings there. Reservations are recommended especially for dinner as the restaurant does functions and weddings.
Our lovely Saturday lunch reminds us that it is important to stop and "smell the roses" and that life is short and precious. Being around those you love and being in the moment makes for a good day and weekend.
