It's a beautiful weekend and we are ready to go out and play!

The 2014 Sydney Festival is on from 9-26 January and we are keen to see the adorable giant rubber duck!

This time, the Rubber Duck floated into the Parramatta River - so we planned a day-trip out to the Sydney's western suburbs.

We've done some pre-planning! So not quite spontaneous - but at least we know what to expect.

First up - brunch.

A hot Summer day like today - it reminded us of the beach - except we are going inlands... but we can have fish & chips to make up for it!

We worked down the ranking list (yes - I absolutely adore rankings: it does make decisions a lot more easier) and stopped when we saw the bold claim: The Best Fish & Chips in the Universe!

Now that got be an exaggeration - but still very ballsy!
The shop is on the way, so let's go and give it a try.

Ocean Foods
Add: 154 Lyons Road Drummoyne

The shop is situated at the corner of Lyons Road and Gipps Street Drummoyne. Very modern and clean white fit-outs. We noticed the large signage and banners placed everywhere to advertise their award glories.

Abundance of fresh seafood at your fingertips. The menu boards covered the entire backwall. We were slightly lost in the vast of selections.

Everything here looked fresh and appetising!

Fresh battered seafood cocktails dunked into the deep-fryer, we listened to the sizzling bubbling frying sound, then on queue, a batch of glistening golden crunch seafood goodies were out smiling at us.

Decisions, decisions.

We decided to follow what the locals recommended. 'When in Rome, do as the Romans do.'

It is a very warm day, so we defeated temptations and opt for a slightly 'healthier' selections:

Grilled Fish of the Day $9.30
Sweet Potato Chips $6.50
Seafood & Prawn Salad $ 8.50 (small)
Icy cold Peach Tea

The fish was very nicely grilled! We can actually taste the freshness and the texture of the fish. Very happy with it.

I like it so much, I actually went up to counter and enquired to find out the name of the fish - it is Pacific Dory. Such fancy name given to the ordinary Basa fillet.

Now I will not slight the mass cheap Basa fillets. When you prepare it right, simple fish can taste like gourmet.

Switching from the normal potato fries, the sweet potato fries are obviously much 'better' for you. (In all honesty, I think it is just a misconception - anything deep fried will take away most of the nutrient value. But hey, if you believe that so you can consume guilt-free, go for it!)

It is a very large serving. You seriously can feed 3 people with this massive plate of sweet potato chips. Too bad, there are no seagulls nearby to feed the leftovers.

Lightly battered, crispy and crunchy.

Very morish with the lemon & herb chicken salt.

My friend liked it so much that she suggested to buy the McCain's Sweet Potato Chips from the supermarket afterwards.

A good idea and cheaper too!

The seafood & prawn salad looked and tasted refreshing. Perfect for a hot summer day like today.

It consisted of seafood flakes and large prawns, mixed with red & green capsicum, celery and cool thousand-island dressing.

A good summer day salad.

We sat in a light airy corner and enjoyed our meal. It was quite quiet for Saturday lunchtime. The shop is not exactly doing a roaring business today.

There was a cafe gelateria set up adjacent to Ocean Foods and I think they own it as well. All new and fancy with exotic gelato flavours. Perhaps that is why the price is slightly dear compare to other fish & chips joints.

As to my verdict on their claim The Best Fish & Chips in the Universe! - sadly I don't concur.

They are good, average but not that fantastic in my palate opinion.

Off we go now - on our way to see the Rubber Duck!
