Ocean Beach Resort and Holiday Park is located in Umina just over an hour's drive North of Sydney.
From the moment we turned off the main road I switched into holiday mode: as we approached the boom gate entrance glimpses of the children's playground and jumping pillows came into view. Shrill screeches of excitement filled the car, hands clapping and fingers pointing to the beach entrance with sounds of laughter - all that just from the adults.
This holiday park which is owned by the NRMA and managed by Free Spirit Management, the park is a member of the Big 4 group. Accommodation varies from powered campsites which cost from $35.00 a night up to deluxe villas at around $410.00 a night.
Once a year the park hosts a night of camping for charity $20 is all a site costs during this event, the fee is donated in full to people in need. Held on or around Friday 16 November, advance bookings are essential.
The office is open from 8am to 8pm, late check in is available up to 9pm by calling the night manager, check out times vary depending upon your choice of accommodation. The entrance has security boom gates with each vehicle being issued a pass code, this adds a feeling of security not usually offered in a holiday park.
Everything you could want for a successful family holiday is available on site. The park features absolute beach frontage and although Umina beach is known for rips, it is patrolled in two locations. It is highly recommended you swim between the flags.
The children's adventure play park is very adventurous, with a hint of nostalgia as it's not often you see such high slippery dips and challenging climbing mazes in this modern era of safety first. It's not a hard stretch to consider these play areas are original installations.
Two jumping pillows provide fun for all ages but by far our most popular group activity was the pool area. The pool offers both a toddler's area and a main swimming pool with spa and sun lounge beds. A water slide adds to the fun and was open at all times. The pool area is unsupervised and displays signs advising children must be in the company of an adult.
Pedal go-karts can be hired at $15.00 for 45 minutes, these are a great way of exploring the park grounds, both single and double are available and although you may think twice about your peddling ability they are quite light and very easy to manoeuvre.
A games room hosts a TV lounge, ping-pong table and several arcade type machines, and is open from 8am each day. Tennis courts and equipment are available and free to use; a refundable bond is required. Bookings are recommended.
The amenities in this park are very clean, three separate buildings each house eight toilets and eight showers which are free to use, hot water use is timed to five minutes. The amenities are cleaned twice daily in rotation to ensure one is always open.
All in all this park provided a great adventure and fun filled holiday for our group.
