Mosman lies on the northern shores of Sydney and is home to mild, harbour beaches and sprawling houses.

Hidden from view, there is a small, tranquil stretch of sand known as Obelisk Beach. Accessible from the wide avenue of Chowder Bay Road, a hidden path will take you to the 100 meter beach.

For Mosman locals, news of a restful location for bathing and strolling will come as no particular surprise. What may shock and titillate is the news that this particular beach has gained cult status among a certain sector of the Sydney populace.

Obelisk Beach is one of the few beaches in Sydney that allows nudity. Far from prying eyes, bathers are allowed to fully disrobe.

For the shy visitor, it will be heartening to know that Obelisk Beach is completely secluded. Nonetheless, there is a large public car park situated on the Middle Head Road side of Chowder Bay Road. The footpath is clearly marked, but a certain degree of vigilance is required to spot the stone steps that take you to Obelisk Beach.

If you prefer to take public transport, the relevant bus route is the 244, which will take you to Chowder Bay Road.

While the thought of taking to the waves au naturale may be disconcerting for some, the seclusion and relative privacy of the beach should set some minds at ease.
