Operating for more than 38 years, this family-style Chinese restaurant is popular for its Taiwan porridge and classic dishes.
It was originally located next to the Indoor Stadium and opposite the old National Stadium. Now it calls the two-storey building in Toa Payoh Town Park home.
The decor is nondescript and the focus is on the food, delivered at affordable prices and with friendly service.
Its old style tableware and matured serving staff will bring back memories of the traditional neighbourhood Chinese restaurants from the 1970s.
The busy cacophony of the restaurant's interior is counterpointed by the quiet surrounds of the Toa Payoh Town Park with its willow trees, stone paths and ponds. It is also one of the few Chinese restaurants in
Singapore where you can still sup till 5am daily.
Some of the traditional signature dishes include Pomfret with Bean Sauce, Stewed Pork in traditional Taiwanese style, Bean Sprouts with Salted Fish, Sambal Kangkong, Lean Minced Meat marinated with golden brown Salted Egg Yolk, Braised Beancurd, Chyepoh Omelette and Raw Cockles served with special Chilli Dip.
The combination of reasonably-priced menus and tasty dishes make this venue popular for large group events, Chinese association functions and festival celebrations like
Lunar New Year . The restaurant is a popular place for affordable family lunches, dinners and suppers with the added trip down memory lane of old style Chinese cooking in
Singapore .
