About the Fair The major fundraiser for inner west primary school, Oakleigh returns this September with the annual Spring Fair on Saturday 14 September 2019. The Fair will run from 11am to 8pm with fine food stall, pony rides, all day stage and live bands.
There will also be Dino Encounter Aboriginal Dance and Basket Weaving. Look out for the evening food trucks as the fair finishes with a bang as colourful fireworks light up the Ashgrove skies.
The History of the School The area where Oakleigh School is built was called the Oakleigh Estate and the name comes from George Oakden and his wife, whose maiden name was Leigh – thus Oakleigh.
Oakleigh State School opened on 30 January 1934 when 147 students arrived for admission. Within the year, the number of students rose to 311.
At the opening, it was said that,"the residents of Oakleigh had cause to congratulate themselves on having gained a school which embodied the very latest ideas in the designing of educational buildings, in which the comfort of the children and the inclusion of every possible detail to facilitate the work of the teachers had been considered and provided for."
Today the school boasts a swimming pool, extensive grounds, shaded spaces and tennis courts.
