Beautiful breakfasts and mellow coffees
Oak and Vine Toowoomba cafe restaurant hotel city interior
Urbane and laid back with Japanese decor at Oak and Vine Toowoomba.

The ambience of the Oak and Vine, Toowoomba, is urbane with a Japanese flavour and quiet music - perfect for a weary traveller's breakfast. Attached to the Oaks Toowoomba Hotel, this cafe somehow provides a feeling of being from out of town. Perhaps it's the warm and friendly staff keeping up a brisk pace with the extra care and attention you'd expect when staying in a highly recommended hotel. There's a feeling of comfort blended with friendly efficiency. A beautiful floral arrangement 'floats' overhead with Japanese styled fans, blossoms and hydrangeas.

Barista coffee at the Oak and Vine is mellow, delicious and not overly strong. It arrives with a Lotus Biscoff with a cinnamon flavour. There is a 'deal of the day' which on the day was a coffee and cake for $10. Lots of cushioned seating along the wall at the faux marble tables, ten seats at the breakfast bar and a three-seater lounge area with a coffee table for loafing about with mates.

Coffees average from $4.50 to $5. Latte, Long Black, Dirty Chai, Piccolo, Cappuccino and Macchiato are some options. Alternate milks available are soy, almond and lactose-free. Shots are hazelnut, vanilla and caramel plus there is a range of iced coffees. A good range of teas is available and cold drinks fridge.

The wait for breakfast may be slightly longer than average, but that's because the standard of food is excellent. Portions are generous and non-greasy.

During your leisurely breakfast or lunch, you can see today's news on the big screen; subtitles, no volume.

Breakfast of bacon and scrambled eggs come with grilled cherry tomatoes and tangy tomato chutney, the perfect accompaniment. The scrambled eggs are done to perfection in a special style and presentation. Other mouth-watering menu items include Superfood Granola, Herbed Mushrooms, Cannellini Beans on Toast, Eggs Benedict and the Oak and Vine Breakfast of eggs, bacon, chipolatas, mushroom, tomato, spinach, hash browns, house chutney on toasted Vienna. Prices range from $6 to $22.50 with the average being $16.50. Lunch is mostly what you can see in the cabinet with a variety of side dishes.

The cabinet is deli-meets-bakery with quiche, cake, pies, wraps, lasagne, slices and loaves. For your sugar fix, there are huge jars of cookies atop the cabinet. The Oak and Vine Toowoomba is busiest early in the morning with hotel guests as the primary clientele. When you're done, if you want a second coffee to take away, it's only $3.

A glass of water on request. Sea Salt replaces table salt, a healthier alternative. There is a new menu on the way.

Oak and Vine describe their meals as 'thoughtful, precise and delicious' and they are right. Plus, they create their dishes with 100% locally sourced and grown ingredients.

The Kwong Sang Walk hosts the Oak and Vine cafe.

Oak and Vine Toowoomba is located in the Kwong Sang Walk off 530 Ruthven Street, away from traffic noises. The Kwong Sang Walk laneway was developed to recognise the Chinese presence in Toowoomba since some hundred years hence. Kwong Sang means 'always welcome, always open', named after a Chinese goods store opened by Chinese immigrant Hock Sing at 552 Ruthven St. A couple of other Chinese stores popped up, but are all since gone. The laneway officially opened in 2014.
