I stumbled across one morning whilst meandering through the lovely Mornington Botanic Rose Gardens, which is adjacent to the gallery. asks for a small donation as admission. The variety of artwork on offer varies from landscapes to portraits to still life.

is run by artists and volunteers located in Mornington. Oak Hill Community Gallery is an Italianate-style Victorian villa built in 1892. There are five exhibition spaces within the building and the original fireplaces and verandah have been retained.

When I arrived, a couple were leaving with two large paintings. I left with a painting of a caravan by local artist Billy Nye. I would have happily left with more but I have limited wall space. If you are after an original artwork, head to and I am sure you will be able to find something.

There is a small gift shop in reception that has a range of locally handcrafted items for purchase. Items in the gift shop include pottery, cards, paintings, jewellery and even a fabric border collie dog.

Oak Hill Community Gallery has ample parking or park at the Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery. You can visit three sites , the Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery and the Mornington Botanic Rose Gardens which is a lovely space for a picnic and a meander through the rose garden.

offers classes in person and online classes for adults and children. There are many kids classes run during the school holidays. Browsing the kids' classes, I wished I was young as the classes look like great fun as well as learning a lot. So sticking to the adult classes, two classes I wanted to do I have had to join the waitlist and I have enrolled in a term of pottery. I think I might concentrate on hand-built pottery as my last attempt at pottery on a wheel was trying to make planters and I ended up with peanut bowls.

You can follow Oak Hill Community Gallery on Facebook , Instagram and Twitter and the website .

is located at 100 Mornington-Tyabb Rd, Mornington and is open seven days a week 11am – 4pm, please check opening times for public holidays. Phone:(03) 5973 4299 or email [email protected].
