The O2 café definitely stands out. It is a pocket of vibrant colour and life in the otherwise quiet and sleepy suburb of Bassendean. It's one of the few businesses located on Old Perth road that still has signs of life in it. My husband and I noticed the O2 café because of the bright and chirpy music pumping out of it and the leafy green plants that lined its windows. How could we not go inside and check it out?
The décor of the café is really impressive. The roof was exposed tin and the tables were had an industrial design to them. I liked the pot plants on the walls and the green chairs and how the first thing you see when you come into the restaurant is a selection of delicious cakes on display.
I sent my husband up to the counter to order us two drinks and something to eat. He came back and told me he'd ordered us a slice a cake and I was a bit taken aback when he told what its flavour was – gingerbread!
When it arrived it looked a little bit like banana bread and had a light dusting of sugar on it. It had a very interesting taste. It had the consistency of banana bread but had a strong gingerbread flavour. It was delicious. I highly recommend it!
Our hot chocolates came in large cups and were very frothy and had a nice sweet taste. I even let my two-year-old daughter had a taste and she liked it.
I thought the service was very good. Our food came out quickly and just before we left we were offered a free taste of a selection of bite size cakes. I picked a lemon tart and my husband chose a chocolate brownie. They were very nice.
If I had to say a negative thing about the O2 café it would be I thought some of the things on the menu were a little on the expensive side like $12 for eggs on toast or $20 for a full big breakfast.
All in all I was quite pleased with my experience at the O2 café and will probably go back again to have another one of their excellent hot chocolates and try another one of their unique cakes.
