Located in historic Newcastle East, across the road from the Hunter River and just a few minutes walk from a few of the city's best beaches, Newcastle Foreshore Park is a pretty cool spot at any time of the year. However, with the end of 2012 just days away, it's becoming an even more desirable family destination, as it is here that Newcastle's New Year festivities will be held.

The festival this year promises to be a vibrant, fun and family friendly event, and there will be entertainment from 6.00pm near the Frog Pond area of the park, food outlets, and the Foreshore Fairground amusement rides which will be sure to keep everyone happy. Newcastle Beach and Ocean Baths are also just a stone's throw away, so you could enjoy a refreshing swim and picnic before strolling over to the park for the evening's entertainment. Please keep in mind, however, that the Newcastle Foreshore is an alcohol free zone.

With so many families in the city for the big event, the Newcastle Museum will be open until the special time of 8.30pm. In addition to all the fascinating exhibits, it will host a blue light disco for the kids at just $2.00 a head. There will also be free Lego tables for the littlies to potter around at, and for an extra charge, the special exhibition, Visit the Toys: Science at Play. For more information, check out the Newcastle Museum website .
Without a doubt, the highlight of the night is going to be the fireworks displays. Although the main spectacular will begin at the kid-friendly time of 9.00pm, there will be another display at midnight to herald in 2013 with a big bang.

Since the celebrations are a major event and many visitors are anticipated, there will be various road closures in the city from 3.00pm until 3.00am. For more information, consult the City of Newcastle website . Free parking will be provided at the King Street Carpark from 5.00pm on Monday, 31st December 2012, until 7.30am on Tuesday, the 1st January 2013. However, the use of public transport is strongly recommended, and the various agencies will be arranging extra services to respond to the additional demands of the evening.

In conclusion, the New Years 2013 celebration at Newcastle Foreshore Park promises to be a terrific event, which will entertain and astound your entire family. Best of all, it's completely free of charge: a rare treat these days.
