The
NYC Unfolds Street Fair is an annual event held to raise awareness of AIDS, a disease which is affecting more and more people as each year passes. This year, 2011, the event will be held on July 23.
Greenwich Village will be the site for the displaying of the AIDS Memorial Quilt. Global Quilt International sponsors this quilt, which serves as a memorial to those who have lost their lives to AIDS. Almost all of the blocks on the quilt contain the name or names of persons who died as a result of AIDS or AIDS-related illnesses or complications.
The main purpose of the 2011 is to help Global Quilt International get the message out about HIV/AIDS, especially as it relates to African-American communities in New York City. Through education and programs geared toward prevention of HIV/AIDS, Global Quilt International hopes to make an impact on everyone who views the quilt, not just those in the African-American community.
Other vendors and displays will also be at the NYC Unfolds Street Fair, so although this can tend to be a somber affair, there is still some fun to be had. Plan to visit this very special event.
