The New York Burlesque Festival is taking over the city September 30th to October 3rd in its eight year as the largest burlesque event in the world. Featuring many of the world's best burlesque acts and over 120 performances at four New York nightclubs, this year's festival also features live music, international DJ's, and variety and circus performers. So come out and celebrate the comedy and satire of the strip tease…don't worry, there will be plenty of tassels and pasties for everyone.
Thursday, September 30th, the Brooklyn Bowl will kick off the festival with the Teaser Party. Hosted by The World Famous *Bob*, the night will feature over a dozen performers. You can also visit the burlesque boutique, where you can try on corsets and other…items, or even get a pin-up makeover. The doors open at 6:00 and the performance starts at 8:00, with the whole show taking place right before a ?uestlove DJ set (doors at 10:00; show at 11:00). Tickets for the Teaser Party are $10 in advance and $12 at the door.
Friday is the Premiere Party at the Bell House in Brooklyn, where the doors open at 8:00 and the show begins at 9:00 pm. There will be 20 different acts, as well as kissing and spanking booths around the room. Take that information as you will. Tickets are $12 in advance or $16 at the door.
Saturday is the main event—The Saturday Spectacular—which takes place at BB Kings on 42nd Street. Doors open at 6:30 and the show runs from 7:30-11:00. Hosted by Murray Hill, the show will include over thirty acts, followed by the official NYBF After Party from 11:00-1:00 at Lucille's Bar next door. The After Party is free to all Saturday ticket holders. Tickets for Saturday are $25 in advance and $30 on the day of the performance.
The festival will conclude Sunday with the Golden Pastie Awards at the Highline Ballroom on 16th Street. An award show mocking the Oscars (and yes, that means presenting winners with a double D size golden pastie), the evening also includes a Burlesque Early Bird Dinner. Categories include Best Abs!, Most Likely to Get Everyone Kicked Out of a Hotel, The Master of the Between-Acts Quickchange, and The Last Performer in NYC to NOT Get Completely Naked. Don't forget to go online to vote for your favorite performers. Tickets for the event run from $20-35, the doors open at 7:00, and the concert starts at 8:00. And make sure to show up early to catch the stars walking the red carpet (a performance in itself).
VIP Four Day Passes are available for the entire festival for $100, and include seating at BB Kings and the Highline and a limited edition NYBF 2010 poster. And if you're interested in trying burlesque yourself, classes with stars of the festival will be available on October 2nd and 3rd at the New York School of Burlesque.
