Beauty Parlor specializing in Nail therapy
I admit I'm a convert. It's not everyone's cup of tea but I felt like royalty after a day of pampering. At one stage my feet were being buffed, while two different staff members were polishing my hands. I confess that I prefer the fingernails to the feet treatment. I may have been a little tense because I have sensitive feet. I jumped more than once or twice when the sandpaper (called by another name in the trade) was used on my feet.
Years ago I used to get my fingernails painted but have lapsed. These treatments were in preparation for a marquee event at the races and I was racking up the credit card bills. Apart from the dress, shoes, pantyhose, fascinator, facial, teeth whitening, hair colour and spray tanning, I absolutely had to get my nails and toenails shellacked. My free tickets to the races were costing me a fortune, so I needed to be the new me by Nuyu.
When I entered Nuyu I thought it looked like a scene of an American movie where the ladies were lined up with the feet in the foot spas sharing small talk and gossip with others they had never met before. The lady next to me said she gets the works, including the foot mask to pick her up. She said it is so soft, it's heavenly. When I first saw her feet I freaked out and hoped that her rotten nails had not been in my spa water.
The lady next to me did a lot of smiling and laughing and commented that she had always had her nails done by Nuyu and preferred this more central and rejuvenated location just down the escalators from the Main Street entrance. It's very popular so it's not a bad idea to make an appointment, however they do except walk-ins.
I chose the $35 manicure and for some unknown reason agreed to a pedicure for a total of $90. The shellac treatment is slightly more expensive than the regular nail polish but it enables you to walk away with no worries about smudging chipping your nails. I was so tempted to get a lash extension for $125, but would need to take out a personal loan!
My pedicure included a foot spa, having polish removed, file, buff, cuticles removed, sandpapering of the heels, exfoliation of the lower legs all while having a back massage in my chair. The foot and calf massage made all the other treatments bearable.
All in all this resulted in the bottoms of my feet being unrecognisably smooth. I'd soon be like an amateur Skier slipping around fresh snow just like a set of old tyres... No grip anymore!
The hardest part was choosing the colour. There are literally hundreds and hundreds of colours, so my new friends debated then advised me to go safe with timeless red sparkle to contrast my black dress.
Nuyu have extensive beauty services including face waxing from just $8, to full body waxing for men for $200. They also do spray tanning from five dollars and eye therapy and lash extensions. I wish I had seen that Diamontes were only from 50c.I love a bit of bling, fur and sparkle. Now I was so ready to win a fortune at the races!
You're not the only one who has winced and jumped during their pedicures! Both mum and I have been on separate occasions and experienced exactly the same. They are quite rough when removing the skin in the nail bed of the feet. OUCH! π£
