Nundah has a small little market in the car park beside Nundah Station. I recently revisited this market and discovered it has found new life with more sellers, especially fruit and vegetables, than when I last visited it a few years previously.

The markets run from 6 am to midday every Sunday. I normally visit markets for 2 main reasons, the first is fruit and vegetable shopping and the other is for breakfast, brunch or an early lunch. The markets are now currently great for both of these.

Previously when I had visited these markets there was not a great selection of fresh produce or food stalls. I think since both the Eagle Farm Markets and the Deagon Sunday Markets shut down, many of the stall holders have located to Nundah on Sundays, giving you a great selection.

If you turn up in the last half hour of the markets you will see many of the fruit and vegetable stalls heavily discounting a lot of items. I am usually able to grab a good part of my weekly fresh produce shopping here for only a few dollars.

You will also find seafood, meats, freshly baked bread, honey and other market staples for sale here. There doesn't seem to be that great a selection of organic produce, which may be because those sellers go to the Northey Street Organic Markets instead.

Quite a lot of the market is also devoted food stalls, so plan to have a snack or meal while you are there and listen to some live music. I understand the band plays for tips, so don't be shy about putting a few dollars in for their effort and the entertainment provided.

Outside of food, there are a few stalls selling things like clothes, plants and so on. There is usually a mobile dog wash as well. All these things are bonuses on top of the food.

The main negative is that it is a parking lot and lacks the shady trees and grassy areas of some of my favourite markets. Ultimately it is a good spot for some shopping and if the environment isn't comfortable enough for you to enjoy a coffee and a snack, you can always stroll up to the main Nundah strip where there are cafes and restaurants.

Getting there

Being at the train station, obviously public transportation will be good, with the train being an option and there are a couple of buses that stop on Sandgate Road.

Driving is also very convenient as there is a car park next to the markets at the train station that I have never seen packed on market day. There is also plenty of other parking in the area, including at Woolworths in the Nundah Village Shopping Centre where you can pick up some additional groceries to make your trip to Nundah a complete shop.

Overall

New life seems to have been breathed into the Nundah Markets since I visited there in previous years. It has now become my preferred place for fruit and vegetable market shopping on the north side of Brisbane. Its location is very convenient and while it is far from the best market in Brisbane, it is worth rediscovering this market.
