With love well and truly in the air during Valentine's week, it's hard to imagine a more appropriate style of music than the rhythms of salsa for the second Upper Reach Winery Twilight Concert.

Perth band, Nueva Salsa , will bring its infectious, high energy salsa, mambos, bombas and cha-chas to the open air concert on Saturday, February 17.

Originating in 1960s New York, salsa was created mainly by Cubans and Puerto Ricans by blending the music of the Spanish guitar and African and Cuban percussion.

The nine-piece Nueva Salsa was a favourite at last year's Upper Reach concerts and they return with their brand of energetic music to get audiences dancing with its throbbing percussion, horns, vocals and bass.

Nueva Salsa is the second of four concerts to celebrate the 2018 wine vintage at Upper Reach. The band specialises in Cuban, Columbian and New York salsa and features the vocal talents of Adolfo Chavez.

The line-up includes Marty Pervan on trumpet and trombone, Kieran Hurley on trombone, Alex Boyd on saxophone, Gabriel Fatin on keyboards and piano, Kate Pass on bass, Steve Richter on timbales, Iain Robbie on bongos, Adam Monk on congas and Adolfo Chavez on vocals.

The band's influences include Cubanismo, Afro-Cuban All Stars, The Spanish Harlem Orchestra, Tito Puente, The Fania All Stars, Hector Lavoe, The Buena Vista Social Club and Celia Cruz.

The intimate Upper Reach concerts are ideal to gather together a group of friends and bring along a blanket and a picnic to enjoy on the lawn or to book a table at the restaurant with the live music streaming in from the band performing on the stage below.

This is the fourteenth year of Upper Reach twilight concerts, which owner Laura Pearse says always sell out, so early booking is advised. Tickets cost $39 per person, $18 for five to 17-year-olds and free for children under the age of four.

The price for a two-course dinner, including a shared tasting plate as an entrée and a selection of Chef Anthony Broad's delightful main courses to choose from, along with the concert, is $99.

A general admission pass for all four concerts is $120 per person.

Upper Reach's range of wines, including sparkling, reds, whites and roses are all available for purchase by the bottle or the glass.

Upper Reach is at 77 Memorial Avenue, Baskerville and is open every day from 11am to 5pm.
