Upper Reach Winery in the Swan Valley kicks off its 17th season of twilight concerts with the thrumming Latin American sounds of Nueva Salsa on Saturday, February 6.

Like everybody in the entertainment industry, it's been a tough year for Nueva Salsa with concerts cancelled because of the coronavirus.

But bandleader Marty Pervan says they are very happy to break the drought with the upcoming performance at Upper Reach Winery.

He says the band has been performing at the twilight concerts for years and always looks forward to their annual performance among the grapevines.

The winery is a beautiful setting, and the audience is always prepared and pumped for a great time with plenty of people of all ages jumping up to dance on the lawn in front of the stage, Marty says.

It is one of the highlights of Nueva Salsa's calendar.

The compelling authentic Latin American sound features everything from sensual cha chas to high-powered mambos.

Led by Marty Pervan on trumpet and trombone and the vocal talents of Adolfo Chavez, the nine-piece band features electrifying horns, infectious beats, stunning vocals and glorious bass.

The line-up has some of Australia's finest musicians, including Kieran Hurley on trombone, Alex Boyd on saxophone, James O'Brien on keyboards and piano, Peter Jeavons on bass, Steve Richter on timbales, Iain Robbie on bongos and hand percussion and Adam Monk on congas.

In 2021 Upper Reach will host four intimate twilight concerts to celebrate vintage.

Upper Reach owner Laura Pearse says the concerts are all about celebrating to the sounds of the dance music of jazz, swing and R&B.

Visitors are encouraged to bring a picnic and set up a blanket on the lawn in front of the stage at the winery, which looks out over the vines and the setting sun.

Following on from Nueva Salsa is The Aretha Franklin Experience on March 13, Adam Hall and the Velvet Playboys on March 6, then Adam Hall with the Soul Playboys on March 20.

People can either bring a picnic or for $110, enjoy a two-course dinner at the RiverBrook Restaurant while the band performs on the stage in front of the restaurant.

General admission for the concert is $48 per person, with free admission for children under four and $20 for five to 17-year-olds.

A general admission season pass to all four concerts costs $145 per person.

Award-winning wines from Upper Reach will be on sale by the bottle at the concerts. No BYO is allowed.

Concert tickets are available from: www.upperreach.com.au
