Free event or freezing might be the operative word

The swim is at sunrise (7.42am) on Sunday June 22nd at Long Beach, Sandy Bay and celebrates the winter solstice.
The water temperature in the River Derwent in Hobart will be about 12 degrees and quite a few hundred souls will be braving the elements.
The swim illicits quite a few shocked screams. Not because of the nudity but because the water is so icy cold.
For many people it becomes more of a dip as participants can only stay in the water for a short period of time due to hypothermia.
Fires and heaters are set up along the beach to help warm them up when they come spluttering out of the water.

The dip often includes some high profile skinny dippers and last year Hobart Lord Mayor Damon Thomas was in the swim.
The event has been fully booked in previous years.
For modest swimmers, you can take the plunge fully-clothed, but that is referred to as a 'prude swim'.
The event is free but you do need to register your interest first. You can do that here. There will then be forms you will need to fill out. Whether those forms will have questions about your state of mind--I can only hazard a guess.
