The Carlsberg Scandinavian Film Festival (SFF) 2022 is screening in Palace cinemas throughout Australia between July 12 and August 10. Now in its eighth year, the 2022 program is full of high-quality cinema from Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark and Iceland. Nothing To Laugh About is a 2021 Norwegian tragi-comedy that deals with very dark subject matter in a manner that provokes a powerful emotional response. The 107-minute film takes us on a roller coaster ride with comedian Kasper Berntsen played by Norwegian comedian Odd-Magnus Williamson who in the space of one day, loses his job, his girlfriend and his future. Odd-Magnus Williamson also wrote the screenplay and his personal experience of performing standup comedy shine through. Apart from dealing with life, death and illness, Nothing To Laugh About also deals with issues surrounding sexuality, identity, family, friendship and adolescence.

Not one to sit around feeling sorry for himself, Kasper decides to meet his diagnosis head-on and in doing so rediscovers his humanity whilst making some special friends and ultimately helping others deal with their demons.

Nothing To Laugh About is a beautiful film that although uplifting will bring you to tears and may make you question your own life choices.
