FREE festival - Authentic Italian Style - Best & Biggest
Spring is just around the corner, soon we can ditch the heavy clothings and embrace the fun outdoor activities. Spring also means spectacular annual festivals and seasonal markets around Sydney suburbs.
The most notable one is the annual Norton Street Italian Festa. This is one festival you do not want to miss out. It is one of the biggest, most-celebrated multicultural events in Sydney. Norton Street Italian Festa will celebrate its 28th year on 26 October 2014.
Come along to this free festival and treat yourself to some of the best culinary delights. Food stalls aplenty will be serving flavorsome and aromatic Italian food.
Last year, the popular cooking show, My Kitchen Rules (MKR) filmed a team challenge (Italian cook-off) right here at the Italian Festa. It was so crowded but super fun. That episode was just aired this year and attracted 2.7 million viewers.
Check out all the Italian specialty cuisines. Last year, some of the illustrious dishes which had a lively presence included whole-roasted pork, crackings, fresh pasta, woodfire pizza, Italian BBQ. The sight of smoked hocks drove the crowd wild, the queues for these popular dishes were unbelievably long.
Live street entertainment showcasing Italian musical performances will certainly be the highlight of the day. Last year, jolly musicians played classic Italian tunes, the experience was so real and engaging, I thought I was back in Italy. It is expected this year will be bigger with more musical performances.
There will be a produce market boasting delightful award-winning culinary condiments. Last year, the local Hunter Valley Husband & Wife team showcased their TAR 10 condiments. Their products were absolutely gourmet delicious and very different to your average sauces. I could not resist and got their award-winning blood plum vinegar and honey mustard.
If you think that is all, think again. Stop by and enjoy a free drink or two, and sample some imported Italian beverages. I save the best for the last. It's all about dessert and coffee at this festival.
Move over, gelato and biscotti, the new favourite dessert is cronut.
We have heard all the hype about this little sweet dessert, but no matter what, you've got to try these Italian-style cronuts. They are award-winning and only available to the privileged few.
Norton Street is the main street in Leichhardt. The best way to get to the event is by public transport. The Italian Festa will kick off at 10am and will run until 6pm on 26 October 2014. All are invited to this free and family-friendly event.
