I am an academic and writer living in Melbourne. I love to travel and I also love writing about all the things Melbourne, regional Victoria and other parts of Australia have to offer.
Italians Do It Best
As you would expect, Italian food will be the highlight of this annual event located in the middle of Sydney's Little Italy in Leichhardt. Now in its 33rd year, the Norton Street Festa takes place tomorrow 27th October between 10 am and 5 am.
But it's not just about eating the delicious food, it's also about the cooking. This year's Cooking Stage Program will open with a special dish to celebrate Grandparents' Day 'Abruzzese style'. Nonna Franca, with her granddaughter Alegra Locantro, will celebrate Grandparents Day by preparing a special cake from their beloved region of Abruzzo. The special celebratory cake is called Cicerchiata and consists of special fried pastry balls, drizzled with honey. Nonna Franca together with her beautiful grandaughter will make this delicious, yummy cake on the cooking stage and will then pass out some tasty samples for the festivalgoers to taste.
Besides traditional cake making, there will be demonstrations of pizza making, gnocchi and ricotta ball secrets, tips on the perfect pork chop Italian style and so much more - a true feast for the eyes and tastes. For all the cooking demonstrations and talks, have a look here.
There will be a great variety of stalls selling Italian food and products, and the music of Italy with singers and dancers will entertain you while checking out all the food delicacies. Rides, stories and activities for the 'kids' and AutoFesta with hundreds of Italian cars and bikes for the 'kids' of all ages will keep the whole family happy. You can check out the day's entertainment program here.
Norton Street will be closed to traffic so it may be best to come by public transport if you can. All the information on how to get there and parking possibilities can be found here.
