5 Fantastic Northside Playgrounds

Here are five fantastic playgrounds located on Brisbane's Northside. From Nundah in the east, to Upper Kedron in the west, a visit to any of these parks will keep little ones happy. They all have unique attributes, but each has separate age appropriate equipment for toddlers and older children.

1) Kalinga Park, end of Park Ave, Nundah



The highlight of Kalinga Park would have to be the series of five tree houses with bridges and climbing "spider webs" connecting them all together. They have just installed a modern merry-go-round, spinning equipment and new swings.



Kids just love the giant sandpit with strange sculptures protruding and the imaginative wooden bridge meandering across the sand. There are clean BBQ facilities, toilets, under cover picnic tables, a dog off leash area and Kedron Brook Bikeway passes alongside.



Surrounding this playground are plenty of open spaces for playing chasings and exploring the parklands. Parents of small children will appreciate "The Vines", a small cubbyhouse with mini slide and climbing equipment for little legs only. Parents of older children will appreciate the climbing wall and corkscrew slide in the middle of the tree house complex.


2) Downfall Creek Recreation Reserve, 815 Rode Rd, Chermside West

Right next to Downfall Creek Bushland and Environment Centre , lies Downfall Creek Recreation Reserve. The wooden fort playground here has some lovely carvings depicting local wildlife - think snakes, moths, native birds, frogs and possums. The Senses Trail begins and ends at the playground and is a great way to get kids thinking about the environment.



The Environment Centre has fun interactive tables for the kids and runs workshops each school holidays. It is also popular with school groups during term for its education program, walking tracks and great picnic area.



3) Teralba Park, Osborne Rd, Mitchelton

Teralba Park sits on a hill overlooking Kedron Brook. Children will enjoy chasing each other through the living maze and climbing up the tower to find hidden friends.

4) George Willmore Park, Ferny Way, Ferny Hills

George Willmore Park is a fun suburban park with new shiny spinning equipment and a giant spider web tower. Located right next to Ferny Hills Swimming Complex, with plenty of open space, a Half Basket Ball court, picnic tables and BBQs, this park makes a great day out.

5) Upper Kedron Recreation Reserve, Upper Kedron

A bit off the beaten track, this playground is well worth a visit. The design incorporates recycled windmills and artworks from the local high school. Upper Kedron Recreation Reserve has a huge network of climbing spider webs and a host of slides on the slope under some shady Casuarina Trees.
