What do you get when you mix two intelligent women with skills, lots of energy and ideas? Northside Meetings and The Letter Lounge
I walked past with my borrowed dog and I just had to go inside. This is fairly new in my neighbourhood and it is wonderful to have this close by, but you don't have to be from Red Hill to use it. Everyone is welcome.
I met Anne – Maree Jaggs who has the artistic flair. Judy Gregory represents the writing side in this joint collaboration. They craved a place where they could sit and chat, eat and learn, discuss and laugh. So they created Red Hill's new meeting hub – a quirky and wonderful mix of meeting rooms, garden space, comfy chairs for losing yourself in, delicious food and much, much more.
This is a place bathed in light and calm, eclectic and welcoming, at the same time. Judy runs her Information Design Centre from here now. A perfect place to run training workshops and writers' classes. Anne Maree runs painting and sketching workshops. Work mates can meet in the intimate and small meeting rooms, and mums can sit with children and pets in the protected garden. There is a ramp for wheelchairs, which will access the main floor. Downstairs there is a large meeting room for bigger meetings or celebrations or any event that you have set your heart on.
Various groups like "Shut up and write","Whispers Salon"and "Northside Conversations" hold their meetings here. Book groups can use the venue, authors can read their books, indeed, write them, from the comfort of one of the café tables while eating elevenses from a rich selection of cakes and pastries and savouries.
So how about a Murder on the Orient Espresso, or drinks that came in from the cold? Or Perhaps the Balsamic Verses and the Sandwiches of Eastwick. No? I can see you are drawn, like me, to Wuthering Bites…
You can see that they had enormous fun drawing up the menu, filling it with lovely quotes from literature and beyond and have given the place a philosophy and raison d'etre that resonated with me immediately. Oh, and they have a splendid young chef there who can turn out delicious snacks, or cater for you specifically for a larger event. Everything can be tailored to your needs and I think they will meet your expectations. If you are looking for a special gift you might just spot one on the shelf and there are cards to go with the gift.
It is a new venture and one, which I feel we should applaud, because it is the kind of place that draws you in and helps you to connect with others or allows you to create on your own. It is child and pet-friendly and there is some parking, and frequent buses that go along that main road.
Looking at the menu I spot a terrible problem. I am so amused by the quotes that I am simply not making my mind up about what to eat. The young and active waiting staff will have taken some training in patience and watching patrons giggling and smiling over the menu.
In the end, I had to ask to take away the menu so that I could decide which quote I liked best.
"She poured a second cup of coffee for herself and dropped in a lump of sugar like a full stop" The Longer Bodies Gladys Mitchell.
