The Northside Produce Market, held on the third Saturday of every month from 8am to 12pm, is one of Sydney's leading produce markets, with stalls selling everything from gourmet cheeses, fresh pasta, organic greens and hand-made goods.
For those that want to experience the best the market has to offer, the Behind the Scenes Tour, which runs from 7:30am to 8:30am, is a great way to make the most of your market day. Led by chef and passionate foodie Tawnya Bahr, the tour takes you to several stalls where you can sample a variety of fresh produce, meet the stallholders, and enjoy the markets before they get too busy. This tour is generally for adults, however, there is a later one available for children.
The tour is free, and is a must-do for all foodies. Some highlights include sampling the achacha fruit (a South American fruit now being grown in Australia for the first time), Rowie's gluten-free desserts, and the range of organic salads. There is a lot to see and try in the markets, but I would personally recommend doing the tour, as you get to sample a bit of everything. Finish off your tour by having some gourmet coffee afterwards, and sit back, relax, and enjoy the great market vibe. Just remember to wear your walking shoes!
