The (NSRG) is a friendly group of runners who welcome new members. All abilities are catered for. Whether you're a beginner or training for a marathon, this is a great club for support, advice and encouragement. Some of the members are very inspirational, having completed marathons, ultra marathons and other endurance events.

Location
The club is based in the northern suburbs and meet at various locations. The full schedule and locations can be viewed on their website

Cost
How much does it cost? Nothing. It's totally free. It's just a bunch of like minded people running together for fun.

Social Saturday Run
For beginners, I recommend the social Saturday morning session They meet at Neil Hawkins Park in Joondalup at 7am, for a 5km or 9km run through the natural bushland of Yellagonga Regional Park.

The 5km run goes from Neil Hawkins to Picnic Cove Park, returning via same route.

The 9km route continues past Picnic Cove to Ocean Reef Road, along Edgewater Drive and back to Neil Hawkins via Yellagonga Regional Park.

Everyone can run at their own pace, and beginners often start off just walking. Before long, you will be amazed at your progress and how quickly you can run 5km. I cannot underestimate the power of running with other people. There are a couple of challenging hills on the 9km run and I would almost certainly walk up them if I was running on my own, but the encouragement of others helps you persevere. One of the guys says, "Hills are your friends". Well I'm not sure about that, but it certainly helps to run with friends. At the end of the run, everyone hangs around for a chat and a stretch and some people bring flasks of coffee.

Tuesday night intervals
If you're looking to improve your fitness or speed, I highly recommend the Tuesday night intervals, run by Bob. This session is not for the fainthearted, though you can always take it at your own pace. The meeting point is Neil Hawkins Park, Joondalup at 5.30pm and the typical distance is between 6 and 7 km. We usually start with a warm up run of up to 1km, then Bob hits us with the exercise of the evening. This is usually some combination of hills and faster paced running, paved surface and soft sand, and individual running or with a partner. Regardless of the exercise it is a great workout.

Everyone is very supportive and there is a real sense of camaraderie. Bob is very intuitive and seems to know exactly when and how to give you a boost. On my second intervals session, we were doing hills, it was over 35°C and I was really struggling. So much so, I was almost ready to give up or at least start walking. Bob appeared beside me and his support and encouragement kept me going to the end. I felt a huge sense of achievement.

The group also meets on Monday and Wednesday nights and Sunday mornings. So put on your running shoes and join us for a run and some fun. Check out their website and Facebook page for more information.
