The best surf club on the Gold Coast?
There is nothing better than enjoying drinks or a meal whilst overlooking the beach. I have always felt that the Gold Coast is slightly lacking when it comes to beachfront dining and bars, but local Surf Clubs are in the best location possible, offering the best views and value for money on the Gold Coast. But, with so many to choose from, which one is the best?
A few people now have told me that Northcliffe Surf Club is by far one of the best, and after the forth recommendation recently, I felt I had to find out for myself and see if it lived up to the praise.
Located on Garfield Terrace pretty much in the middle of Broadbeach and Surfers Paradise, it offers the usual things you would find in a Surf Club - bar, dining, gaming and more, but I have to admit that this one does feel slightly better than others I have visited.
What I liked was that the gaming aspect was separate from the bar and dining area, not that I am against it, but I certainly don't want it blinking and flashing all the time, especially whilst I am trying to relax and enjoy a meal.
The layout and décor feels a little bit more grown up that others I have visited too, there are loads of tables and chairs nicely set out and the bar area is huge. It just feels like a lot of thought has gone into the planning, with clearly defined sections and areas, which will suit everyone no matter what your reason for visiting.
They also have a cute kids corner complete with a number of TV's set up with Playstation consoles, so you know that you will get a bit of piece and quiet whilst you are eating your meal.
They also have an Internet café, so you can stay connected if you are on holiday.
The bar and dining area was just really clean and tidy – even the toilets are a much higher standard than some of the clubs I have visited. It sounds strange, but it does make a difference.
The beach views, as you would expect in such a prime position, are stunning and they have large windows running all along the beachside, so that every table can take advantage of the beautiful views. You get the best of the views out on the cute terraces, which have a number of dining tables and bar tables.
The food is really great and not expensive at all - most main meals are under $20 and the portions are generous too. They serve food from 7.30am until 9.00pm, 7 days a week, so whether breakfast, lunch, dinner or a snack, you have over 60 yummy dishes to choose from, plus loads of daily specials, so you will be sure to find something to please every taste and budget.
If you are local and want to sign up as a member it is just $10 and you will get 10% off all food and drink – a no brainer really.
I really liked this Surf Club and will definitely be back soon for lunch or dinner and drinks. It has a great vibe, very friendly staff and a really great set up, plus the best beach views. It is clear why they have won the Best Gold Coast Surf Club award a number of times.
"The supporters club was founded in 1988 for the purpose of generating funds for the BMD Northcliffe Surf Life Saving Club which was founded in February 1947 as a result of the expanding suburbs of both Surfers Paradise and Broadbeach. The Life Saving Club uses the funds from the Supporters Club to educate, train and provide vital equipment for the 300 Life Savers who patrol Northcliffe beach each year which is an essential service to our local community."
