The North Lakes Famers markets has been reborn in a new location on top of the North Lake's Westfield Shopping Centre. This small but interesting market can now be integrated into your weekly shopping routine or be the reason to visit Westfield on a Sunday.
Originally located on the shores of Lake Eden it died a slow death due to lack of patronage and with stall holders moving elsewhere. Which is a pity because a market by the lake is a great location.
However now it is reborn on the top car park at North Lakes Westfield. This might seem like an odd location for a market, but it is located at the main escalator to the car park, so as people arrive at Westfield they will pass through the markets. For people coming by bus or who have parked in the lower car park, it is simply a matter of taking the escalators up to the top floor.
On its relaunch the markets feature numerous gourmet food outlets, local crafts, a large organic food stall, potted plant market and a few stalls specialising in certain fruits like strawberries and bananas. There is usually some live music and a children's play area.
Unfortunately at the moment the market is fairly small and lacks both cheap food and bargain fruits and vegetables. Mostly it is a great place to head to if you want organic produce, otherwise it is a nice place to wander around for a short time when you are going to Westfield on a Sunday.
Do you best to support this market. The main thing that could destroy it is resistance from regular shop holders in Westfield who see it as a threat to their business, unless they realise that the market is bringing them more customers who pass on from the markets to their shops. Given that every Westfield in Brisbane is pretty much the same, having a farmers market give you a specific reason to head to North Lakes Westfield.
