North Carlton Canteen is a neighbourhood joint that offers a solid brunch and lunch menu and attracts a varied crowd in Carlton North is the North Carlton Canteen. This cafe looks out onto the northern end of Lygon Street, offering outdoor seating, free wi-fi, and brunch basics. Nice-enough coffee with nice-enough staff and nice-enough food makes for a nice-enough cafe experience. It is a bit isolated compared to the bustling Rathdowne Village or eclectic Fitzroy, but for a regular go-to cafe in the neighbourhood it suits just fine.
Their specials board offers sweet potato and corn fritters with poached eggs and a fennel salad, middle eastern fried eggs, and the like, always something different to please an adventurous palate. What else is cool about this place is that they have a decent take away selection, with wraps, sandwiches and pastries that will pair quite nicely with a smoothie or milkshake. It caters to many different needs, so even if it's a hike check it out. You will have a lovely stroll in Carlton North at the very least.
