Gold Coast Explorer since Jan 2010. Always on the lookout for fun, family things to enjoy with my four kids.

First choice for families

If you are on the Gold Coast, whether you live there or are just visiting, consider this beachfront venue, particularly if you are looking to dine out in a child friendly environment, at reasonable cost. The atmosphere is relaxed, the surroundings are spacious and, for daytime visitors, the setting provides you with stunning views of the beach and sea.

Welcome to North Burleigh Surf Life Saving Club, located at 293 The Esplanade, Miami. To visit the surf club you need to be a member of this or another surf club or be a guest of a member. (It's only $10 to join if you don't have a membership). Our reservation was quickly in place over the phone, we were seated promptly and our meal was ready with only a short wait. We just missed Dan the Magic Man for kids. He's there on Saturday nights, performing at tables, from 6 til 8.30pm. Our larger group of 9 was handled effortlessly and we all enjoyed our selection of mains which included the delicious oven baked lemon barramundi and the visually appetising seafood platter. The Asian stir-fry was also a hit. The nippers menu choices went down a treat too with one daughter giving the spaghetti bolognaise a big thumbs up. Their kids colouring sheets are a good way to keep young kids occupied while you eat.

Check out their website for current North Burleigh Surf Life Saving Club happenings and information. There's an up coming Ladies Melbourne Cup function (The Melbourne Cup Fillies) on Tues Nov 6th, 2012 as well as a Member's Big Draw on the 26th of October. Be there for a chance to win $500. Enjoy live music on Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons.

There's a members courtesy bus for those living within a 5km radius of the club, which is a complimentary service, running on Thursday through to Sunday evenings. The Kiosk@NB, with its umbrellas on the esplanade is open outside of winter (6am 10ish, 7 days) where their morning smoothies are very popular. It also makes for a great stop when you are out riding the esplanade cycle path.

I can understand why Australia's Surf Life Saving Clubs have a reputation for affordable, quality meals, in a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere, for that's certainly what we received on our visit to the North Burleigh club.

This dining venue is a short walk from the Burleigh Mediterranean Resort - a recommended hotel for your holiday accommodation on the Gold Coast.

We`ve also taken overseas friends for a coffee or meal after walking the beach.
