Like so many others around the world, my heart is breaking with the news of Nora Ephron losing her battle with leukaemia.
Whenever somebody passes away it's only natural to revisit and acknowledge their achievements, but, if I'm being honest I feel like I already do that more than I probably should. It's no secret that I love movies, and it's definitely no secret that I love a good chick flick...but Nora Ephron's films were more than chick-flicks. They became bibles, in the form of film.
Nora Ephron is known for her big hits such as; When Harry Met Sally, You've Got Mail, Sleepless In Seattle, Heartburn, Silkwood and Julia and Julia. I always thought Meg Ryan was the queen of romantic comedies, but it turns out she was the Princess and Nora was her Queen.
In the words of Nora; "Above all, be the heroine of your life, not the victim." Nora Ephron was brilliant. She IS brilliant. She will always be remembered as the intelligent woman who created the bar for romantic comedies. She was full of wisdom, charm, wit and inspiration.
To celebrate the life of Nora Ephron, why not host a movie night in her honour? What better time than right now, when it's raining almost every night? Who doesn't want to curl up on the couch with a cup of a tea and romantic comedy? Here are my top 5 movie recommendations to celebrate Nora Ephron.
1. When Harry Met Sally "I'll have what she's having." You can watch the trailer here.
2. Sleepless In Seattle "Destiny is something we've invented because we can't stand the fact that everything that happens is accidental." You can watch the trailer here.
3. You've Got Mail "I wanted it to be you. I wanted it to be you so badly."
