The Nor East Hotel, on the North East Road, Gilles Plains, advertises daily specials. The day we visited, the specials included traditional favourites such as lasagna and a British dish known as "Toad in the Hole". I was curious about the "toad" which I was told was a sausage wrapped in Yorkshire pudding, however, I can never pass up lasagna so I will have to try it another time. Lunch specials start from $12.90. My friend's steak cost a little more but turned out to be excellent value due to the large serving.



The really great thing about the Nor East that day was the friendliness of the staff and the little extras. For example, some places will not give a complimentary roll with the special meals, but the Nor East provided a bread roll. The staff member who served us was exceptionally friendly and other staff going off duty after the lunch shift also presented a cheerful aspect as they passed us in the car park afterwards.



The seating was comfortable and the atmosphere was generally relaxing. We were told a new menu was on its way but were very satisfied with our choices from the current one. Desserts started from $4.50 for ice-cream or cheesecake.
