The main street of Noosaville nurtures a festive atmosphere. With the river flowing gently nearby, and people enjoying the sun in the park on the riverbank, it's hard to take things too seriously. The restaurants facing the river all take advantage of this, but few contribute as much to the atmosphere as the Gelato Caffe.

is the source of all the dripping ice creams wandering past on Gympie Terrace. As you make your way through the park, or browse the menus along Gympie, ice cream after ice cream drifts past, in the hands of lucky eaters. The ice cream glistens in the sun, visibly racing down the cone as the frozen treat gives way to the heat.

Finding isn't the easiest, tucked away as it is in the complex on the corner of Gympie Terrace and Thomas Street. Once you get there, it's inevitably a wait as you add yourself to the never-ending cue. Take advantage of the time to choose the best-matched flavours.

I'm always a sucker for coffee gelato, so that made the base of my choice. Add to that something chocolatey, and I'm a happy girl. I was handed my cone, which immediately began to drip, and I began the hard work of eating.

Good gelato is never guaranteed, no matter how busy a holiday resort's ice cream parlour is, but I was happy to discover that stood up to scrutiny. The gelato was soft and creamy, not too sweet, without the wateriness of truly bad gelato.

It was no trial to finish my cone.
