Nobby Beach Holiday Village, Gold Coast

Our family of five booked two nights at Nobby Beach Holiday Village on the Gold Coast for the QLD Labour Day long weekend, 2019. The Nobby Beach Holiday Village web site said that they have cheap accommodation, so we chose the newer poolside penthouse for $250 a night. Prior to our arrival, we received an email stating we had to send a photo of my husband's driver's license and that a refundable security bond of $100 would be taken (to pay for any damage). We also had to pay $10 (refundable) to receive wristbands for use in the pool area. No other accommodation provider has ever asked for these things, so I felt rather uneasy about the whole thing.
Upon arrival, I was disappointed to find that our 'penthouse' was a very tiny townhouse. Upstairs, I found half-sized wardrobes, a small wall-mounted TV in the main bedroom, hard beds and pillows, and no shower door. But the thing that really made me upset was that the water temperature was hard to control, which meant that you could only have a really hot shower or a lukewarm one. There was nothing in between. In addition, the water from the shower leaked out and pooled around the toilet.
Downstairs there was the delight of a second toilet, a full-sized fridge, a two-burner stove top, four bench stools, but no oven. One two seater couch, two armchairs and a wall-mounted TV formed the living area.
Outside there was a small patio with a table, six chairs, and a small BBQ.
The toaster and kettle were old and the only fancy things I could find were the man-made marble bench tops in the kitchen and bathrooms, and plastic laminated wood-look floors throughout. Quality finishes get my tick of approval.
The playground is just outside the back of the penthouses and caters for very young kids.
The biggest drawcard is the slide and pool.
This is the obscured view of the pool from the penthouse's main bedroom balcony.
After one night, I realised that I wasn't going to get any sleep. There was the constant hum of a steady stream of traffic and the hard bed to contend with. Then my youngest ended up in our bed because the bunk bed was "hard like a rock". I bet the army has softer beds. Also, being so close to the pool means that you can't sleep in because the noise of kids and pool slide motor starts just before 8am.
The staircase does not have any child safety gates on it. So if you can't climb stairs or have very young kids, please be aware of this. We had to leave the lights on in the staircase, so that there would be no accidents at night.
Overall, the highlights of our mini-holiday included the pool, slide, local parks, and the gorgeous beaches.
Also be prepared to do some research to find the closest eateries and shops using the free wifi connection as addresses are not included in the brochure of places to visit/dine.
