No Person is an Island - UN 70th Anniversary

In 2015 the United Nations in celebrating its 70th birthday. To mark this event in Adelaide, surrealist artist Andrew Baines has teamed with the United Nations Association of Australia to hold a special event.

On Saturday April 18 at 9.30am Andrew Baines is creating a surrealist installation at Henley Beach entitled No Person is an Island. It is inspired by the words of John Donne "No Man is an island entire of its self, every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main".

At the Henley Beach seafront nine representatives of various continents will assemble, dressed in their traditional national attire to stand on top of the ocean.

The installation will symbolise a group of human islands, and the image will be a multicultural, visual celebration of the United Nations 70th birthday. After photographing the event, Andrew Baines has been commissioned to create an inspired painting to be used on official UN envelopes and hung in the UNAA Canberra.

Laura Adzanku - Chairperson African Women's Federation
Joe Scalzi - President of the Italian Carbenieri Association
Jock Zonfrillo - Native Food Chef and Restauranteur (Orana)
Sarika Young - Indian Dancer and Director of a Modelling Academy

The installation will be located adjacent to Joe's Kiosk on the Esplanade at Henley Beach, so you can even get a great coffee to enjoy while you watch.
