Dance like nobody's watching
'You've got to dance like nobody's watchin', is a line from the 1987 song Come from the Heart that has been quoted (and misquoted) countless times since. These simple lyrics have inspired so many and were most likely the vision behind No Lights No Lycra. This concept is so simple it's surprising that nobody thought of it many years before Alice Glenn and Heidi Barrett started their 'dance community' here in Melbourne in 2009.
Now a global phenomenon, their simple mantra of 'no light, no lycra, no teacher, no steps to learn, no technique, just free movement' has resonated with people all over the world. NLNL communities are now located in around 60 locations throughout Australia, New Zealand, Canada, China, the US and Europe.
For one hour and just $7 you can lose yourself to the beat. At the end of the hour you walk away sweaty but very energised - like you've just completed an aerobic workout that is so much more fun than anything a gym could offer.
You can join a NLNL dance party at a number of locations around Melbourne including the CBD, East Brunswick and Footscray. For details go to - nolightsnolycra.com/location/melbourne-2/.
