Flipping good burgers
My husband and I discovered NKB Express by chance when we were looking for a quick chow down before a wedding. We were pleasantly surprised when we walked in because it felt like we went back in time to the 1940s. With stylish, retro furnishings, cosy old-fashioned booths, white tiled surfaces and sepia photographs on the walls, I realised that we'd come across something really cool and funky.

Expect gourmet burgers, classic hot dogs, delicious waffles and bagels from this little joint. Burger lovers will be pleased with 8 different choices, all inspired by New York districts. There are 3 Wayu beef variations, pulled Bangalow pork, organic chicken, and vegetarian options to choose from.

Burgers aside, the waffles will satisfy those with a sweet tooth. Or if you're after something for breakfast, pick the breakfast bagel. Of course, various sides, coffees, shakes and sodas are also available to go with your meals.

And make sure you check out their specials! At the time of writing they had a bucket of buffalo wings for just $15. If we weren't pedantic about getting sauce on our outfits I think that's what we would've ordered. So instead, hubby went with the Midtown burger - Buffalo marinated chicken breast, lettuce, tomato, bacon and blue cheese sauce. And I ordered the Brooklyn waffles with bacon, egg and maple syrup.

It was yum, yum, yum! The sweetness of my fluffy waffles was well balanced with the saltiness of the bacon. And the fried egg was cooked perfectly to my liking with the yolk still runny and the edges a little brown and crispy There wasn't too much maple syrup which meant that my waffles didn't turn soggy. My husband's burger was awesome. There was a good amount of heat in the chicken which went well with the rest of the ingredients, which were fresh and delish. Perhaps if we weren't in such a rush, I would've remembered to take the photos before we dug in.

Overall, we loved our meals. And they make great coffee too! I wish we had ordered some fries and one of their scrumptious frosty milkshakes as well, but I guess it will have to be next time.

What I also love about these guys is that they use the freshest ingredients sourced from markets on a regular basis. You'll get grass fed beef, organic chicken and condiments made on-site from scratch including their ice cream.

It is a shame that I don't live on this side of the town anymore, but I know that I will come back if I'm in this area again.
