Thanks to Niska, a robotics company you can now visit the world's first robotic retail store at Fed Square and meet Pepper the cheeky social robot. Pepper can hold conversations, express emotions and even make eye contact.

Use the touch screen display to choose from 16 locally made flavours of delicious ice cream, and add your requested toppings.

The robot never gives bad service, never mixes up your order and gives the right size scoops of ice-cream every time.

The initiative required software development and specialist engineering techniques that together enable the robot to automate a production process that also involves sensitive interaction with the human end user.

Australian-made artisan ice-cream is on offer with a variety of flavours including Salted Caramel, Vanilla, Hazelnut, Rocky Road, Rainbow, Cookies and Cream, and many more.

The ice cream is locally-produced in Melbourne with the best artisan tradition of gelato and ice cream making, all served by a team of robotic staffers, including Pepper as well as Eka and Tony.

Eka is a robotic arm that will scoop the ice cream while Tony will be adding toppings like chocolate syrup and sprinkles.

The team will also supply your requested toppings.

The robots create a unique customer experience and "world-class service" by establishing meaningful interactions with each person.

Visitors can even take selfies with Pepper, the social humanoid robot, with photo spaces delivered within the store.

Kids are going to love the novelty of this

You will find the store in Federation Square at Tenancy 20, Crossbar, Federation Square and it is open every day from 11am until 8pm.
