1940s flair with 21st century sophistication
As if anyone needed another reason to visit Rivoli Cinemas. With its eight screens, comfortable cinemas and iconic Art Deco architecture, there is already so much to love about the Rivoli.
A bar with a view. nineteenforty has an outlook over Camberwell and Hawthorn East (with a full moon rising on the night we visited)
But now there is one more feature that's worth checking out - nineteenforty, a new rooftop bar. nineteenforty offers delightful panoramic views over Camberwell and Hawthorn East, under the glow of the classic Rivoli sign. The bar gets its name from the year in which the Rivoli first opened.

The garden inspired fit-out comes equipped with umbrellas and heaters, so it's suitable for all seasons and weather. The bar offers a relaxed, casual space that is perfect for a pre-movie or pre-dinner drink, or just for chilling out with some friends.
Relaxed, garden inspired decor
nineteenforty has a menu of light snacks available, including Mediterranean vegetable pizza ($20), veggie spring rolls ($18) and Nutella filled cinnamon dusted Spanish donuts ($19).
On the drinks list is a range of cocktails (great value at two for $30), wines from $10 per glass and beers and ciders from $8. I tried the Scottish Ginger cocktail - Dewars 12, Domain de Canton, lemon, cherry ($17 if bought singly). This was a great combination - Scotch with a spicy kick - and is recommended for Scotch lovers.
Also on offer, for the gin lover, is the Premium G&T Experience for two ($35) - Star of Bombay, tonic water and a selection of botanicals: lemon, lime, orange, cinnamon, mint, cucumber. I must get back and try that out!
