A trendy pit stop after playing a round of golf, or if you happen to be around the Five Dock/Canada Bay area. Nineteen By The Bay brings old fashioned service back into the mix, and with a twist. If you find yourself sitting outside near the open BBQ area; in the least pretentious way possible - you are escorted inside. No choices, just go with the flow.
The host ensures that his ladies eat in style (think tablecloths and cloths on chairs, as if you were at a function) and you are perched near the water. Life (the traffic) just passes you by while you see glimpses of people playing golf; not to mention amazing water views this time round.
Food and drinks need to be ordered prior to sitting down. Of course, your food is delivered to you. Opting for a glass of red wine, the taste did satisfy. The wine served was a mystery, it could have been either a Merlot or a Cabernet Sauvignon. It doesn't matter. With great company, time flies. Best to order an entree and a pizza to share. I was lunching out with someone else on a Friday. It felt like we had the whole restaurant to ourselves despite being quite busy on weekends. This establishment also attracts a lot of queries for functions. My dad had an amazing 50th birthday party here.
The calamari made way for a fabulous entree. Quite filling, and the crunch made way for a smooth texture. Well salted and beautiful fish. The host came over and said that he needed to take care of a function enquiry before preparing our supreme pizza. We did not mind. I wasn't in any hurry.
Let me say the wait (for the pizza) was worth it. Fresh ingredients. The meat pieces are rather generous in size. The pizza came out piping hot at the right temperature. Definitely wasn't in the mood to do what the romans would normally do. Knife and fork usage was appropriate. Amazing pizza, I'll be back for more another day.
