GolfWA wants to introduce the game to non-golfers with an event at the Albany Golf Club.



GolfWA exists to provide opportunities for people of all walks of life to play, learn and love the game of golf.

aims to welcome non-golfers to Albany Golf Club with an easy going nine holes, tasty barbecue morsels and drinks with post round entertainment thrown in.

The event is being hosted by GolfWA and food and wine festival Taste Great Southern on Monday, March 22, from 11.30am to 5.30pm.



The Albany course has been heralded as close as it comes to a true Scottish links course and Taste Great Southern event organiser, Richard Campbell, says the March 22 event is a perfect way to get a taste for the game.

Unlike its Scottish counterparts, the course doesn't have much in the way of snow and it claims the beer on tap is much better.

The event will feature Great Southern wines from Porongurup vineyard Duke's Vineyard and will be paired with treats from the barbeque prepared by the gourmet chefs at Woodfired Treats.



Albany's attractive 18-hole course features lots of elements to create challenges for golfers and the knolls and knobs make for appealing features to provide an introduction to the game.

The course was established in 1898 with nine holes and enlarged to 18 holes in the 1960s.

The site for the course was first suggested by an English golfer visiting Albany, who thought the land at Middleton Beach, beside Lake Seppings, was ideal for a nine-hole "links" course, as the best golf courses were those on traditional links on seaside land.

The 18& #43 ; event has early bird tickets available for $185 and general adult tickets for $199.

The ticket price includes nine holes of golf and cart, four drink tokens, food and post round entertainment.
