The Nikon-Walkley Press Photo Exhibition is on again right now, for those with a serious interest in documentary and press photography, at the Brisbane Powerhouse until 25 February.
The exhibition showcases works displaying the talent of more than 100 Australian Press Photographers, whose images have been selected from over 1000 entries.
Expect to see and feel the emotions that have been captured in these images which provoke moments of, joy, devastation, triumph and heartbreak from a series of important events that occurred during the previous year.
2012 saw Justin McManus, the press photographer for The AGE take out the top award for 'Excellence in Photojournalism' for the Nikon-Walkley sponsored event. The famous 'Gillard' photo below by Lukas Coch from Australian Association Press also made the finals.
Other award winners were identified by categories including, feature, sports and news. For those interested in finding out more, visit The Walkley Foundation Award website.
There is no comparison between viewing the images online and the power of viewing the images in person at the exhibition. The impact is not the same, as for some reason it's doesn't feel quite as 'real'. However for those who are unable to make it to the Powerhouse in person, here is a link to some of the 'online images' from the awards.
Nikon is the proud sponsor of the Nikon-Walkley Awards for Excellence in Photojournalism.
Consider making a visit to this exhibition as part of a day out in Brisbane. You can have lunch at the Powerhouse or catch a cross river ferry over to Bulimba, where you will find lots of eating options along Oxford Street.
