Nigronis is a Modern Australian breakfast café in the morning and then an Italian pizza restaurant for lunch and dinner. It is located on
Magnus Street that runs through the centre of Nelson Bay, with outside tables to sit
el fresco and watch the world go by.
My family and I had walked past Nigronis a number of times in the last few months and always commented on how busy it was - and vowed to go back and try it for ourselves. On a busy Sunday morning, we parked nearby and wandered over, to see for ourselves the attraction. Although there are many other popular
breakfast cafes in town, as well as
Sienna's Pizzeria Restaurant a few doors down, Nigronis is always popular with full tables and a vibrant atmosphere. We sat down at an empty table and waited to see what lay in store...
Firstly, one of the main attractions of this café restaurant, as we soon discovered, was the service. As soon as we sat down we were offered a menu and not long later, our friendly waiter came back and asked us if we would like to order our drinks. After perusing the menu, we were happy to order both our breakfast and coffees and then soon after, he was back with serviettes and cutlery. Although this sounds fairly normal for a café experience, we were impressed as all this happened in efficient speed, while the outside dining area was bustling and full of diners.
The breakfast menu itself isn't long, however it has something for everyone, at particularly affordable prices. There are choices for something healthy, light or if you want a big meal - with most meals under $15. See
here for the menu, and below.
On our visit we chose the Raisin Toast for our daughter at $4 a serve, Bacon & Egg Roll at $7.50 and Bacon & Avocado Melt for $15, with coffee for us and a milkshake for our daughter. It was surprisingly affordable, with generous servings on our plates and delicious flavours. I would easily go back again for the Bacon & Avocado Melt, with its soft, home-made ciabatta toast and generous amount of avocado, bacon and cheese. Although the Piazza D'oro coffee wasn't the best in town, in our opinion, it was undeniably a hearty start to the weekend, with service, efficiency and a smile.
Although we sat outside on our visit, under the shade of the awnings, there was also an indoor seating area with impressive chandeliers which had pride of place over the dining room. If you visit for lunch or dinner at this popular Italian restaurant, you may need to book a table to ensure you get the table you want - depending on the weather. The inside tables are glamorous, romantic and provide an intimate experience, whereas the outside tables make you feel like you are at a bustling, Italian square with people all around.
Whenever you decide to visit Nigronis, take your appetite and soak up the Italian, holiday feeling, in the heart of Nelson Bay.
