New to Canberra, I love exploring this city and the secrets that it holds with my family.
Enjoy Nightfest with entertainment, food & funky DJ's
Nighfest at Floriade is in it's eighth year, showcasing the Floriade floral displays under light shows, night markets, live music, comedy acts, roving entertainers, exhibitions and dance parties.
Running over five nights (23rd - 27th September), this event requires a ticket each night which can be purchased on the evening (for an extra surcharge) or online. Children and families are welcome. View the program for each night here.
There are many different venues around Commonwealth Park's Floriade to enjoy the nightly entertainment before or after admiring the floral displays under lights.
"The Inspiration Hub" area has interactive activities and exhibitions from local tourist attractions such as the Australian National Botanical Gardens, The Royal Australian Mint and the National Dinosaur Museum.
"The Comedy Cave" has entertainment nightly by "The Stevenson Experience" with their hilarious musical act, as well Luke Heggie and Hannah Gadsby (Wednesday to Friday) and Celia Pacquola and Joel Creasey on Saturday and Sunday.
If you a reality TV fan, you may recognise Joel Creasy from Australia's version of "I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here". Although he was looking a little shabby out in the bush with the other celebrities on the show, he scrubs up well for his performance.

There will be Food and Wine workshops in "The Tasting Plate" with exhibitors such as Bentspoke Brewery, Mount Majura Vineyards and The Cheese project. There will be two cooking demonstrations per night between 7:30am and 9pm and the market stalls run from 6.30pm to 10.00pm nightly.
"La Petite Grande" tent will have comedy, acrobatics, juggling and record-breaking hula hooping all in one entertaining venue.
The beats will be pumping at "The Little Palais" with Rave CBR's UV Dance Party on Wednesday to Friday - which is an all ages event with lasers and UV face paint to glow while you dance. It will be the Saturday and Sunday night events that look intriguing - No Lights No Lycra Disco is where they turn the lights off and the sound down, so you dance in the dark!
"Moonlight Lounge" is the ideal place to a break with a drink and something to eat whilst listening to DJ's and live music.
On Friday 25th of September, you can also pay to have the full VIP experience. You will arrive to Nightfest by ferry (from Canberra Southern Cross Yacht Club) with a beverage on arrival, drinks and an exclusive show by comedian Hannah Gadsby at the VIP marquee, a 3 hour drinks and canapes package at the marquee, time to wander the festival and a goodie bag on departure. Details here.
So for a different perspective of Floriade this year, why not enjoy Nightfest 2015 with market stalls, food and wine, a ride the Ferris Wheel (perhaps not in that order) and enjoy the festival atmosphere of Floriade by night.
