New to Canberra, I love exploring this city and the secrets that it holds with my family.
The smells alone will make your mouth water
The Night Noodle Markets will be held at Reconciliation Place (behind Questacon) for 10 nights from the 4th - 13th of March as part of The Canberra Times Good Food Month and Enlighten Festival 2016. The Night Noodle Markets have been a successful venture in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne and arrived in Canberra last year for the first time.
It is no secret that Canberrans love a festival and when you add noodles to the mix it seems you have the perfect Canberra combo. More than 156,000 people turned out for the event in 2015, with 24,000 people turning out for the opening night. Now organisers know what to expect they have planned for a bigger and better 2016, with more in store for this exciting event.
Local restaurants will be back again to add their local touch to the Night Markets as well as interstate Noodle Markets regulars. Once again, visitors will be spoilt for choice from traditional Thai and Filipino street food, noodles, huge kebabs and a range of desserts that will have the market-goers lining up for more.
There is seating under colourful lanterns to enjoy your meal with a drink from the bar or for a quieter option there is plenty of grass to sit on outside the markets. This is where our family enjoyed our noodles last year, before being lured back into the markets time and time again by the Asian BBQ smells wafting our way.
In its location behind Questacon and in front of Old Parliament House, The Noodle Markets is the ideal place to wait for darkness to fall and sit back and appreciate the Enlighten artworks projected on the walls of these iconic buildings. This creates a magical feeling within the city as day turns to night and a spectacular colour comes over the city.

During some of the nights of the Night Noodle Markets (March 4th, 5th, 11th and 12th), you may see some 7 metre tall, inflatable white rabbits as you make your way into the Noodle Markets. Finding a patch of grass within the Parliamentary Triangle, these stark white rabbits will also light up the night sky when dark falls. For more information see here..
Throughout the Noodle Markets there will also be other Enlighten entertainment to enjoy in or near the markets. Adjacent to the Noodle Markets will be the Electric Garden Outdoor Stage with live music each night starting between 8:30pm - 9:30pm. See the Enlighten website for more details. On the Friday and Saturday nights there will be roving entertainment around the Parliamentary Triangle and Reconciliation Place to surprise and delight. For the first weekend (4th and 5th of March) there will be Its More Fun When It Hurts, Back in Black, Zebras , Gastropodia and Solar Bugs. On the Friday and Saturday evenings the second week (11th and 12th March), look out for the Gantry Bike, Glimmer, Lamposts and Meduses .
The Enlighten Festival is another highlight of the event calendar in Canberra and the Night Noodle Markets would have to be a local favourite. On a warm evening, it is the perfect way to meet up with friends and family and celebrate this community event, every night for ten nights.
