Vibrant Night Markets on the Gold Coast
The Gold Coast is becoming a vibrant hub for local markets. Its support for emerging local businesses, artists and musicians is great to see and a real way of bringing the community together.
Night markets have always been one of my favourite weekend activities, especially when you're just looking to do something that is a bit more laid-back and family friendly.
Having lived in the Gold Coast for 4 years now, I have compiled a list of my favourite night markets in the area, but if anyone knows of others around the Gold Coast, please feel free to share by adding a comment to let us all know.
Why: Hidden in the back streets of Miami, the wonderful Miami Marketta offer a family friendly night out with everything from international street food and live music to a few pop-up arts, craft, clothing and homeware stalls.
The atmosphere is always buzzing with lots of seating and a huge turnout each week.
Why: Situated adjacent to the Helensvale Train Station, is the Gold Coast's newest edition to the night market scene. The place resembles the famous "Eat Street" markets in Brisbane, featuring over 120 food stalls, designers, emerging musicians and craftsmen within converted shipping containers. There are even six different bars, serving cocktails, craft beers and local Queensland wine.
When: Every Wednesday, Friday & Sunday night 4pm 9pm
Why: These beachfront markets in Surfers Paradise come to life every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday night. With more than a hundred market stalls and live entertainment, it offers a great vibe as well as a nice way to browse, shop and stroll slowly along the beautiful foreshore.
Why: On the 1st Saturday of every month Chinatown comes alive with its street markets boasting cuisines from all walks of Asia as well as free live authentic entertainment that will transport you to South East Asia.
Where: The Village Green, Currumbin Bird Sanctuary, Currumbin
When: Every Friday 4:00pm 9:00pm
Why: Located on the Currumbin Bird Sanctuary Village Green and held every Friday is a vibrant night market featuring live entertainment, local and international foods as well as a variety of stalls selling arts & crafts, fruit and veggies.
The venue also has a licensed bar stocking beers from Burleigh Brewing.
