Think silk, velvet, pearls, glitz and glamorous evening clothes, hand stitched and made with care and creativity; here you have the new exhibition at Ripponlea, Night Life. The setting for this exhibition could not be more perfect, a heritage house with the requisite ambience and sense of history and halcyon days of 1920s and 30s evening parties, elegant women and suave, well-dressed men.
The exhibition is drawn from the collections of the
National Trust of Australia(Victoria) and features clothes and accessories from the early 1920s to the 1930s. Associated with Night Life are also a series of mini-events including
Curator Talks,
Automobile and Motorcycle Days, a
a 1930s soiree,
a fashion high teaand the fabulous finale of
Putting on the Ritz - dancing, canapes, elegance and fun. To find out more about these events within Night Life please check
here for days, times and cost.
The fashion exhibition is exhibited throughout the historic Mmansion and gives visitors a chance to revisit the history of the nightclubs and dance halls of the past through the fashions of that era. The curator of the exhibition, Elizabeth Anya-Petrivna, has succeeded in putting together a collection that not only illustrates the past but adds elements of modernity.
