From 10–16 July, NIDA Open will be at Daramalan College, giving people of all ages the opportunity to explore their creative side and engage in a variety of drama short courses.

With extensive backgrounds in theatre, TV and film, NIDA tutors deliver enriching learning experiences in every class, by catering to the varied artistic interests and skills of their students.

Whether you're a future star of the stage or just have an interest in performing, NIDA Open can help you star in your own creative journey.

  • NIDA Heroes, Villains and Spies: Screen Acting

    Get ready for three days of outrageously fun on-screen antics as you act out scenes from famous hero, villain and spy adventures. Stop moving trains, intercept international secrets and save the world – all from the safety of the rehearsal room! Develop skills in acting and characterisation as you rehearse and film scenes to camera. Present live and on-screen scenes at the end of the course for family and friends.

  • Farce and Furious

    Start with a kernel of comedy gold and craft it into a masterpiece worthy of Saturday Night Live! Whether you're thinking of starting a YouTube channel or a comedy sketch group, the key is in the concept. Work with NIDA's improvisation and performance specialists to develop your comedic ideas, analyse scenes from funny films and explore the variety of ways to extend and extract every laugh and giggle.

  • Screen Acting Techniques

    Develop an understanding of screen acting techniques and explore their application to short scenes from contemporary film and television. Discover your on-screen presence and gain confidence in performing truthfully on camera.

    Dates & times: Mon 10–Fri 14 Jul 2017, 10am–5pm

    Ages: 18 years+

  • Off-the-Cuff: Improvisation

    Start with nothing, risk everything and learn how to impress on stage in every moment. Learn fundamental short and long form improvisation skills, improve confidence, explore creative spontaneity and develop fundamental acting skills. Showcase your skills to family and friends in an improvised off-the-cuff presentation at the end of the course.

  • Acting Boot Camp

    A fast-paced intensive course for acting recruits: build skills in fundamental acting technique including improvisation, character development and scenework. Perform scenes for family and friends at the end of the course.

    Grades: 7–10, 11–12

  • Acting Essentials

    Develop core acting skills including improvisation, voice and movement. Gain confidence rehearsing and performing short scenes.

  • Voice Essentials

    Learn how the voice works to release its power in performance. Explore a variety of texts to develop your vocal clarity and impact.
