There's a new music festival coming to Sydney in 2012. But this one's not aimed at the die-hard festival goers. It's called SLIMEFEST and it targets the underage, tween market. The festival is a product of Nickelodeon and an off-shoot of their immensely popular Kid's Choice Awards.

As the name suggests, the festival will retain Nickelodeon's trademark slime and will also involve audience participation and spectacular stunts, like the slime-dunking machine, which will see a celebrity immersed head-to-toe in slime. Fans will be able to vote for the celeb they want to see dunked, with details to be announced soon.

A number of artists have already signed on to be part of SLIMEFEST and alumni of Australia's reality talent shows dominate the line-up. Among the acts that have been confirmed are Australian Idol's Jessica Mauboy and Stan Walker, Australia's Got Talent 's Justice Crew and X Factor 's Reece Mastin, Johnny Ruffo and Christina Parie.

SLIMEFEST 2012 will take place at the Hordern Pavilion in Moore Park, Sydney, on Saturday September 15. There will be two shows, the first beginning at 11am and the second at 5pm. Both shows will last 90 minutes and tickets are on sale now at Ticketek . For those who can't make it, the event will also be broadcast nationally on the Nickelodeon pay-TV channel at 6pm on the same day.

All ages are welcome at SLIMEFEST, though only those between 8 to 15 years old and at least 140cm high will be permitted in the standing floor area (the Mosh area). It is this area that will be at risk of getting slimed. Anyone shorter than the recommended height or outside the age bracket will be asked to stay in the seated area.

Nickelodeon has said it would like to make SLIMEFEST an annual (and even national) event and has faith it will receive a positive response from fans. General Manager of Nickelodeon Australia and New Zealand, Ben Richardson, has promised SLIMEFEST won't be your average concert. Instead, the festival is being promoted as "The Slime of Your Life".
